What the test helps compare
The method subjects a specimen to repeated controlled movement against a defined abradant. Results can help buyers compare materials tested under stated conditions, but the test does not reproduce every force, contaminant or cleaning routine found in service.
Read more than the cycle count
Check the test standard, specimen construction, dry or wet condition, endpoint and reported observation. A cycle figure without those details can be misleading.
Compare results under the same method
Do not treat numbers from different methods, endpoints or laboratories as automatically equivalent. Confirm that products were tested on a comparable basis before ranking them.
Do not convert cycles directly into years
Laboratory abrasion cycles are not a direct prediction of furniture life. Seam design, foam, user behaviour, cleaning, contamination, flexing, sunlight and installation all influence real-world performance.
Use abrasion as one part of approval
Combine abrasion data with application, surface appearance, backing, flexing, cleaning and any required fire or chemical information. Approve the exact collection and construction rather than a single headline number.
