Identify whether the upholstery is inside a cabin, under a canopy or continuously exposed on deck. Sunlight, moisture, salt, temperature, flexing and cleaning frequency can vary significantly between those locations.
Review UV and colour stability
Light-fastness or UV information helps assess colour stability under defined test conditions. Compare the stated method and result for the exact collection; a marine category name by itself is not a test result.
Separate water, salt and mildew requirements
Water repellency, salt-water resistance and anti-mildew performance describe different concerns. Ask which properties are documented and how the installed cushion, seams, foam and drainage will manage moisture.
Choose the surface for the design
Fine grain, textile effects, stripes and geometric embossing create different visual results across boat seating. Evaluate physical samples at the expected panel scale and in the intended light.
Plan cleaning and maintenance
Use the cleaning instructions approved for the selected collection. Remove contamination promptly, avoid unapproved solvents and test any cleaner on an inconspicuous area before treating a visible seat panel.
